The aim of the Smart Centre is to support teaching and learning for both pupils and staff. Pupils will be greeted with a positive attitude and offered help, guidance and support to enable them to access the curriculum. This can include bespoke timetables, one to one support, extracted teaching and learning sessions and opportunity to access a range of interventions including counselling.
The intervention team also aim to offer bespoke packages of support to enable pupils to become more emotionally literate. These will include play and art therapy as well as counselling and restorative practice sessions.
The Smart Centre is overseen by the Behaviour Manager and is staffed by two members of the team throughout the day. The intervention team are highly skilled in utilising and developing strategies to support all our learners to incorporate all of their individual needs.
The Smart Centre has many purposes including accommodating pupils who require a set period of isolations and internal exclusion in accordance with the behaviour policy. A further use is to support the teaching and learning of those pupils who have been temporarily removed from their lessons with the aim to reintegrate them at the earliest opportunity. Smart Centre staff use restorative practise theory, to enable pupils to explore their feelings and reflect on the impact they have had on others and identify how they can put things right.
